function in color and losing it
A chromatic study of signage, function, and urban landscape
This photographic project explores the chromatic reconstruction of traffic signs in Berlin, preserving their original form, placement, and urban context. By altering their color schemes—through the lens of color vision deficiency and contemporary visual aesthetics—the project questions the relationship between function and perception. The ergonomic clarity of the sign is disrupted, shifting its symbolic authority.
At the same time, this transformation introduces a new visual and poetic layer to the cityscape, where functional street language becomes image, color, and composition.
An experiment in legibility, accessibility, and visual expression within the public space.
